There are many examples of companies applying this dual cycle, perhaps most famous is Apple with a yearly release cycle in which one is focused on new design/features, next one to consolidation and optimization.

But I was astonished while reading "The Dawn of Everything", a thought-provoking book by anthropologists Graeber and Wengrow. In the book, we find evidence of ancient tribes alternating between what I would call an authoritarian winter and an anarchic summer.

These societies would become highly hierarchical and militaristic during the tough times, only to disassemble into self-organized smaller groups during the good ones. A seasonal governance model, adapted to what the times demand.

Can you imagine the level of social and emotional maturity required to alternate between these too extremes? Amazing.
