We create interal friction when many priorities compete. It's the result of an insidious internal dialogue: should I do this? or should I do that? Spiral of Overthink.
TDD effectively reduces that monkey chat, and puts you either in a builder's mindset or in a gardener's one, it lowers the barriers to exit the spiral. For a world with ADD, this is a blessing.
For the method to work, you need to apply it consistently over time. As you alternate between builder and gardener, you build trust. It's the trust that, no matter what you do, a new cycle will come. Uncomfortable with cutting corners? No worries, a gardener's cycle will soon give you the chance to amend. Have you found missing features while gardening? No worries, a builder's cycle will soon allow you to add them.
Internal friction dissolves
when we trust the process.
