Afterword to Not in the Mood
Double challenge this week:
I had a hard time pivoting from the original idea, as the post says.
I had a family trip. I’m writing this from a hotel room in Granada. It’s Sunday, I guess they’re waiting for me to go for dinner.
I’m committed.
References for not in the mood are obviously from Dune. My original idea was to use Villeneuve’s version. I looked for the clip and Lynch showed up. I confess: I have not seen Lynch’s version. Everybody says it’s horrible. An example of compromise between a director’s artistic vision and the commercial demands imposed by studios. I don’t want to spoil David Lynch.
Then I found that clip. I could not resist. The presence of Patrick Stewart—Jean-Luc Picard—is magnetic.
While Villeneuve’s Dune is a piece of art that I admire, the aura of Josh Brolin and Timothée Chalamet is no match.
I guess we will never have the chance to compare with Jodorowsky’s
The diagram of the 6 elements of duty, I would have loved to replicate the style of Steinberg’s famous View from 9th Avenue, the New Yorker cover.
But I just didn’t have the time nor the talent to pull it off. I won’t leave it here, though, as I believe a diagram that allows me to see the heavenly, the distant and the immediate is exactly what I need—what we need—in order to deliver perspective to our ambitions.
So that’s another one for the backlog.
Thank you for reading 🙏
See you on the next one! 👋
